DESIRE

Have you ever thought what really desire or covet or crave for something means? Does it consist of essential ingredients of daily life, money, fame, lust or what?

Confucius admitted rationality of satisfaction of desire, just as he said in The Ritual Usages,"Water, food, men and women are vital desires of human".

Charaecteristics of desires at different ages varies as....for the child desire will be for a toy or a lolli pop, for an young it should be for money, sex and fame and for an old it should be for matter and peace.

Desire also varies from an individual from city to city. A small towner having dream to have a house in the country side and a good government job, for a metro guy will have desire to have an apartment in a metro with a big business or luck in Bollywood plus a large size car with a sexy lass.

To overcome desire means to be in control of yourself rather than following desire like a servant. Desire is the root of man's bondage. One who is able to overcome desire for sensory gratification and worldly power is a spiritually evolved person and it is for this reason that a spiritual aspirant must constantly strive to conquer desire. How does desire impede spiritual progress? There is nothing wrong in satiating a desire but it does not stop with that. As soon as one is fulfilled, another one sprouts in its place and it becomes an endless seeking. Hence, it is necessary to weed it out right in the beginning without becoming a slave to it.

Any comment from any of you????

With love and regards…have a very good night… J

  1. It is not desire that has to be overcome, since to attain spirituality is also a desire, to know God is also a desire. What is to be overcome is the attachment to the desire. When the action of the desire is bonded with the ego, it forms an attachment. If one lets go of the ego, then the fruction of the desire is merely witnessed joyously. :-)

  2. Desire consist of 2 components viz; formal desire and genuine desire and ego comes under formal. Partially I agree with your response... :)
