How to be a Super Dad ???

We don’t need any superman like ability to deal with the tiny tots or teenage children. Just a careful watch and spending time with them makes a significant difference in their development.

Following quotes I like very much~

"Parents are not the only voice in your children's ear, so you better be the best voice, the clearest voice, the most influential voice in your children's ear." - Jay McGraw

"With all of the media influences today, Parents need to have the 'best voice' that really gets through to their children." - Jay McGraw

Positive dad involvement is an important factor in children's healthy development. Studies show that when dads participate in learning, children are more likely to receive higher marks, enjoy school more and are less likely to repeat a grade. Simply sharing books and reading with children can lead to better school performance and a closer bond with dad. Academic success starts long before your children start school and parents are children's first and most important teachers. This close and positive relationship starts early in children's lives when dads and kids spend special time together.

Dads sharing the work and play of raising kids can really make a difference.

Dads are a powerful influence on children's literacy achievement in many ways other than just sharing books. Children also enjoy looking at and reading maps, cartoons, sports cards, project assembly instructions etc. Brochures, newspapers and magazines appeal to many dads and young children as well.

Point out and read environmental print while on excursions with your child. Even the youngest child loves reading the big M for McDonald's and the STOP sign at the end of your street.

Children love to hear dad tell stories about when he was young especially if it's done in a fun and playful rough and tumble way. Dads can talk to children about old photos that tell stories of their childhood. Most children also get a kick out of hearing knock-knock jokes, nonsense rhymes and silly jingles. Listen to stories on DVD while driving together in the car for added fun.

For becoming a responsible and better dad one has to take following steps ~

1. Ask your child~

a) What can I do to be a better Dad?
b) What can we do together to have more fun?
2. Engage in your children's lives. Learn about their day.
3. Ask your wife for her ideas about connecting with your kids.
4. Appreciate that our children need to "Individuate".
5. Learn from others. Talk with your friends.
6. Bring "Best Practices" into your home.
7. Communicate with them. When we lecture we lose them.
8. Understand the balancing of YES and NO to our children's requests.
9. Make a commitment to be your best for your family.
10. Appreciate that you will need to "Adjust the Plan"

Set a GOAL to be a Great Dad, HUG your Child Daily, Tell them you LOVE them ! Get to KNOW your Kids, Set a game plan to SPEND TIME together
Have DINNER Together as often as possible

Hope my understanding of a becoming a Super dad may be helpful to the many.

With Love and regard,

A very good night…
